Garage Door Tracks
Garage door openers are a delightful way technology has made our lives easier and safer. But that doesn't mean they are without faults. I hate noisy garage door openers. Sitting in my Keller home, I was watching TV when my wife came home. I could hear the rattle, grinding, and bouncing metal sounds from the living room! This was a clear indication that I needed to repair my garage door tracks.

What Are Garage Door Tracks?
Garage door tracks house and guides the rollers, which facilitate smooth travel of the garage door. Any minute misalignment or malformation in the garage door track can lead to a noisy experience or worse, damage the door further. In addition to the irritatingly loud noise, having poorly aligned or damaged garage door tracks can burn out the motor in the opener.

What Causes Garage Door Tracks to Fail?
Many things can cause garage door tracks to malfunction. But most commonly, failure is caused by a different garage door component failing or malfunctioning. Below are common ways your garage door tracks can fail.

  • Broken cable
  • Poor roller lubrication
  • Lock strikers causing significant scraping and eventual splitting of the vertical track
  • "Frozen" of defaced rollers
  • Decayed jab or footings
  • Metal fatigue in the horizontal track
  • Normal shifting of the foundation and construction materials
