PictureTorsion Spring Repair in Keller TX

Firstly, what the heck is a torsion spring and why does it need repair? Simply put, it is a heavy-duty coil under a tremendous amount of tension.  These coils wind and unwind to open and close your garage door and are responsible for carrying most of the weight of the door. When one or all these breaks, it spells trouble for your garage door. That's why we are here in the greater Keller area!

Why Do Torsion Springs Break?
Because torsion springs are responsible for lifting the weight of your garage door, they experience a great deal of pressure every day.  Added to the natural tension that exists in springs of this nature, and you've got the perfect storm.

Most torsion springs can have life spans anywhere between 5,000 to 30,000 cycles (up and down). Once they reach this limit it's time for your torsion springs to be replaced or, if you're unlucky, repaired.

How Do I Know When My Torsion Springs Should Be Replaced?
A common sign that you need your torsion springs repaired or replaced is broken cables. This is especially true if your garage door shaft system has only one torsion spring. Torsions springs typically hold cables in place, so a fault or breakage can cause your cable to explore its new-found freedom.

Additionally, you may notice your door opens up by a few inches and then stops, or it opens up incredibly slow. This can be a sign of a faulty or broken torsion spring, and that it needs repair. An easy way to test if this is caused because of a broken or faulty torsion spring is by closing the door normally, pulling the emergency release rope, and attempting to open the door. If the door feels very heavy it is likely that your torsion springs (which counterbalance much of the weight) are faulty or broken.
